Just another phase?

On the long drive to Hilo Friday I was complaining to The Husband about Thing1's name. We gave him a Hawaiian name thinking it would be unique but as fate would have it we were destined to move to Hawaii and his name turned out to be quite common here. We may as well have named him Mike or Chris or Jason. It wasn't a conversation I would have thought a 2 year old would be able to follow but the next day he started insisting we call him by his middle name. We didn't really take him seriously at first but he's still telling us that he prefers his middle name. We had a powwow about it last night and came to the conclusion that it won't hurt anything to humor him. While it feels a little strange to start calling him something different after almost 3 years, it's a small thing to make him happy.
